Education Programs
As a rural community development NGO, much of what Divine Relief Aid Outreach Organisation does focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty. One way to break this cycle, especially across generations, is to ensure children have the opportunity to go to school. This is an almost daily practice that most of us take for granted for our kids. However, formal education is not always an option for families living in Malawi’s focus areas.
Primary Education
No child may be out of school, even in emergencies. DRAOO supports stakeholders in building schools, training teachers, and raising awareness among parents. DRAOO focuses on getting more girls to school and ensuring they have safe access to water and sanitation. Moreover, DRAOO pays attention to the psychosocial needs of children who have no access to education. Part of peace education is life skills training, where young children learn to develop different skills.
Vocational Skill Training
When people are employed or otherwise able to generate an income that sustains them and their families, this adds to their sense of dignity. DRAOO works closely with organisations and institutes that provide Vocational Skills Training. In addition, DRAOO collaborates with major labour-market stakeholders, so graduates from VST programmes have skills relevant to future employers. DRAOO also provides start-up support to entrepreneurs who want to start their own businesses.
Adult literacy training
The skills to read, write and calculate are important for accessing and assessing information. DRAOO supports programmes that offer literacy and numeracy training, mostly to girls and women. This support includes teacher training and access to safe learning environments. Peace education includes life skills training, where young children learn vocational and computer skills
